Build your recurring-charge list
Review recent bank, card, app-store and payment-service statements. Look farther back for annual renewals. Write down the provider, amount, billing frequency, next renewal date and the account used to manage it. Search unfamiliar merchant names through your own account records before assuming fraud.
Mark each service keep, pause, downgrade or cancel. Ask everyone who uses a household plan before removing it. Check whether cancelling a bundle would increase the price of something you still need.
Cancel through the actual billing provider
Find the cancellation instructions in your account or agreement. A service bought through an app store may need to be managed there. Deleting an app does not itself establish that billing has stopped. Read any early-termination or annual-plan terms before proceeding.
Save the confirmation and effective date. Put a reminder after the next billing date to check the statement. If a charge continues, contact the provider using its verified contact details and keep the correspondence. The FTC's subscription guide explains practical steps for renewal and billing problems.
Make Your Savings Count
Don't just cancel the subscription. Keep the savings.
Canceling a $20 monthly subscription could
free up $240 over the next 12 months.
That's money you could put toward something
more important.
With SoFi Checking & Savings, you can
create Savings Vaults for your goals and
schedule recurring transfers to help set
aside the money you're no longer spending.

See What You Could Save
Potential savings over 12 months
$240 / year
Put money you free up toward a goal with SoFi Savings Vaults.
Example is hypothetical and assumes a $20 monthly subscription is successfully canceled before the next charge, with 12 future payments avoided and no replacement expense. Actual savings vary. Vault transfers require setup and are not triggered automatically by cancellations. *SoFi Checking & Savings has no account, service, or maintenance fees; certain transaction fees apply. SoFi Checking & Savings is offered by SoFi Bank, N.A., Member FDIC. Terms apply.
Keep the saving from disappearing
After the first charge is successfully avoided, decide how much can stay in your account for upcoming bills and how much can move to savings. Keep annual renewals on a calendar. A ten-minute check next month can catch a replacement subscription before it becomes another forgotten expense.
FAQ
Can I do this without linking bank accounts?
Yes. Review statements and billing accounts yourself, then cancel through each provider.
Does a cancellation mean I get a refund?
Not necessarily. The service terms, billing period and circumstances determine refunds; keep the cancellation confirmation and check the final bill.
